Janet O begins by talking about the Welwyn Garden City Art Club, which began in the early days of the town in 1921. She talks about her preferences for painting, and how she came to join the club. She mentions that the Craftworker’s guild and the Photographic Society used part of the same hall when she first joined, but eventually dropped out as the prices went up. She then explains how she became secretary, and and her duties and role. Ian B then discusses how the club obtained funds, and the process of them gaining a larger hall for larger exhibitions. They then talk about the Hopkinson trophy, an award named after Giles Hopkinson, one of the first secretaries of the club, which is one of the greatest honours they bestow. Finally they share some stories about various members and their particular art styles.
