George VI Coronation

Celebrations in Howardsgate
By Llinos Thomas

The Coronation of George VI took place on the 12 May 1937 and towns and villages all over the country saw celebrations and parties.

Welwyn Garden City was no exception. The picture shown is of people just outside the Midland Bank, now HSBC, on Howardsgate, with prams decorated in flags and photos of George and Elizabeth. Some children can also be seen in fancy dress.
