in the 1960s

I used to cycle the length of Handside Lane each day to get to the Grammar School/Stanborough School. It was a completely safe experience. I had to negotiate perhaps four parked cars: on a bad day, five or six vehicles would overtake me (leaving some clearance).
I have vivid memories of the area around Meadow Green, where mist could sometimes collect in a layer about four feet thick right across the road. It was beautiful.
