Street Party, Heronswood Road

Most people over 40 will remember the many street parties held in Welwyn Garden City to celebrate the Queen’s Silver Jubilee in 1977. This photo which I took at our local party in Heronswood Road may bring back some memories.

  • I remember our street party on Walnut Court, off Walnut Grove, off of Howlands. Long tables, flags to wave, happy children and happy parents, and it was sunny! I also still have my mug and coin! Very special.

  • I remember going to a party just like the one in your photo, only it was in The Croft. Tables were set out along the linkway that joins the two arms of the Croft, off of Mountway. I also remember thinking that the pop song all my friends were talking about wasn’t very nice about the queen! It was fun afternoon in a street i’d never been to previously.
