The Shredded Wheat loco.

Neal Davis

There has been some interest in the Shredded wheat shunter engine. Shredded wheat purchased a Fowler 040 petrol shunter in 1934 for the factory. It worked there for 40 years although in 1954 Fowler re- engined it with a McLaren 2 cylinder diesel. It was decommissioned in 1974. However it was eventually sold and went to Knebworth house as an exhibit, later it was purchased by the Fleggburgh museum in Norfolk.

The museum went into administration, and in 2004 the loco was purchased as scrap by a private buyer. In November 2015 it was aquired by us for restoration to go to the Mid Suffolk Light Railway as an operational loco. It will be finished in its original Shredded Wheat livery.

The restoration is proceeding quickly and it should be at the Middy by May 2019.
