I was a nurse at the Canadian Red Cross Hospital but after I married I worked in Welwyn Garden Stores. I was 19 and overwhelmed by the size of the stores and all the department’s. I worked in Vandenberg and fabrics. I remember helping ladies to choose sheets and matching pillow cases..it made a change from tucking patients in them. We clocked on and off and had to put goods that we purchased into parcels that were sent down to the gate and pick them up as we went home. Wonderful that it is still there and owned by John Lewis.
