“There was a very pretty wedding at St John’s Church, Lemsford, on Saturday, when two well known and popular personalities were married. Miss Elsie Smith, the daughter of Mr and Mrs H Truscott Smith, of 92 Handside Lane, was the bride, and Mr John James Waldock, of 23 Birdcroft Road, the son of Mr John Waldock of West Hill, Hitchen, was the bridegroom. Mr Waldock formerly did much amateur theatrical work with the Barnstormers in the Garden City. He holds a responsible position as inspector of banks for Barclays, and was formerly with the Garden City branch.

Given away by her father, the bride wore a beautiful dress of white lace, with coatee of same material, and sash of violet-coloured velvet, Her emroidered veil was crowned with a wreath of orange-blossom buds, and she carried a bouquet of violet and white carnations.

Miss Phyllis Kitley, Miss Mary Richards, and Miss Joyce Waye were the bridesmaids, the two former wearing dresses of parchment satin, while Miss Waye wore a white net period dress. They, too, carried bouquets of violets and white carnations.

Mr Robert Henry Waldock, brother of the bridegroom, was the best man, and the Rev. W. W. Clarke officiated. Wedding music was played by the church organist Mr Ladbury.

Following the reception at the “Clock,” Welwyn, the happy couple left for their honeymoon at Bournemouth, the bride wearing a black coat trimmed with Persian lamb, and green dress and hat.

Mr and Mrs Waldock are to settle down in the Garden City on their return.”
