“Floyd-Roe

The wedding took place last Friday before a large gathering of friends and colleagues of George August Floyd, second son of Mr and Mrs John Floyd of Luton, and Ivy Murial Roe, only child of Mr and Mrs Leonard Roe of Bengeo, Hertford.

Mr Floyd has been on the staff of Welwyn Garden City Ltd. for many years, and his appointment was recently announced to Assistant Accountant to the company. His bride has been on the staff of the Garden City branch of Barclay’s Bank, for the past six years.

The ceremony took place at the church of St Ethelburga the Virgin, Bishopsgate, E.C.2, and was conducted by the Rev. Dr W F Geikie-Cobb, D.D.

The bride, who was given away by her father, wore a white cloque dress with coronet of orange blossom and lilies of the valley, with tulle veil and she carried a bouquet of lilies of the valley, stephanotis, and white rose buds.

Her bridesmaids were her friends Marjorie Campkin and Kathleen Wilson and they wore dresses of lemon organdie embroidered with pink and blue rose buds, with lemon juliet caps trimmed with pink and blue flowers. Their shower bouquets were pink and blue sweet peas.

Mr B G Thorowgood acted as best man and the ushers were Messrs. S.C. Luxton and H. Miller.

After the ceremony, which included the march from “Lohengrin” and the Mendelsohn Wedding March there was a reception at the Strand Palace Hotel. The couple afterwards left for honeymoon in France and Switzerland, the bride wearing an enamelled floral two-piece suit with hat to match.

Gifts included the following: bridegroom to bride, silver dressing set, bride to bridegroom, gold and platinum cuff links, bridegroom to bridesmaids, engraved silver bangles, staff of Barclay’s Bank, Welwyn Garden City, to bride, tea set, Accounts Dept. Welwyn Garden City Ltd., electrical appliances.”
