“The white mantle of snow which covered Parkway on Saturday provided an effective setting for one of the most picturesque weddings the Garden City has witnessed. At the Roman Catholic Church, Miss Mary Elizabeth Richards, of 3 Polayn Garth, the daughter of the late Lieut. Roland Richards and Mrs Wallis, was married to Mr Donald Carter, who for the past four years has been producing publicity and educational films at the British Instructional Studios.

Miss Richards is an athletic young lady who has lived in the Garden City for eight years. About four years ago she made a trip round the world. A keen aviator, she is a member of the London Aero Club, and was trained at Stagg Lane aerodrome.

There was a charmingly medieval note in the beautiful gown, which was of white georgette with long tight sleeves falling gracefully over the wrists. Given away by her step father, Mr W H Wallis, the bride carried a bouquet of Lilies-of-the-valley and was attended by little seven year old Janet Hardie, whose pretty daffodil coloured dress was in Kate Greenaway style.

The brides mother wore a becoming ensemble of soft grey Angora and georgette, the princess line of the coat following out a similar style in the dress. Miss B Richards, the bride’s sister, wore a charming picture frock in floral printed crepe de cene with short shoulder cape, and over this a three-quarter coat of navy silk marocain with bow at shoulders.

Father Pitt officiated over the marriage ceremony and organ music  was played by Mrs Frankton. Mr Hassacker, a friend of the bridegroom, was best man.

Following a gay reception held at the Clock Restaurant, Welwyn, where at one time the bride was housekeeper, the happy couple left to spend their honeymoon at a destination which was not disclosed.

The bride chose for her going away dress a two-piece suit ensemble of dark blue ribbed tweed and hand-block printed crepe de chine-one of the new “Chevron” designs. It is of interest to note that the dresses worn by the bride and her mother and sister were made by Cresta Silks Ltd.

Mr and Mrs Donald Carter are to settle down in the Garden City. On their return from their honeymoon, Mr Carter is to resume a film he is at present making for the Central Electricity Board.”
