“Skinner-Ellis
A pretty wedding took place on Saturday at St Francis Church, when Gladys May Ellis, daughter of Mr and Mrs C Ellis of 2 Verulam Close was married to Albert H Skinner of 17 Parkfields, son of Mr and Mrs A Skinner, 99 Burnt Oak Avenue Sidcup.
The bride’s father is a well known and popular member of the staff of Welwyn Builders Ltd.
The bride who was given away by her father, wore a gown of white satin, falling into a train, with veil and headdress of orange blossom. Her bouquet was of lilies and maidenhair fern.
Her bridesmaids were Misses Betty and Peggy Skinner and little Eileen Haimes (niece of the bridegroom) and Barbara Miller (brides cousin). They wore dresses of floral voile over pink slips, with headdresses of ivy leaves. The adult attentants carried sheave of sweet peas and the children baskets of sweet peas. Mr Denis Skinner acted as best man.
After the ceremony, which was conducted by the Rev. A H Watkins there was a reception at the Cherry Tree and the couple left for a honeymoon at hastings. The bride’s going away dress was a green costume with tan hat and shoes.”
