Wedding of Miss Louisa Rose Wren and Mr Reginald John Welch

This wedding photo appeared in the Welwyn Times on 15 June 1939 on page 5 along with the following article:

” The wedding took place at St Francis Church, on Saturday, of Miss Louisa Rose Wren, daughter of Mr and Mrs W Wren, of 24 Applecroft Road, Welwyn Garden City, and Mr Reginald John Welch, provisions assistant at the Welwyn Stores, son of Mr and Mrs John Welch, of Eirw Road, Porth, South Wales.

The ceremony was conducted by the vicar (the Rev. A H Watkins), and the bride, who was given away by her father, was attired in white satin with a short train, veil and halo of lilies, and carried a bouquet of white lilies. She was attended by three bridesmaids and a page boy.

The bridesmaids, Miss Marjorie Hayes (friend), Miss Ellen May Wren (sister), and Miss Patricia Griffiths (cousin of the bridegroom) wore dresses of floral lavender taffeta trimmed with violet, with halos and shoes to match, carried posies of mauve sweet peas. The page boy, Master Henry Wren (nephew of the bride) wore a lavender satin tunic and violet velvet trousers. The best man was Mr Donald Welch (brother of the bridegroom).

The reception was held at St Francis Hall, after which the couple left for their honeymoon at Southsea, the bride travelling in a blue two piece suit, with white hat and shoes.

The bridegroom’s present to the bride was a silver horseshoe, and the elder two bridesmaids each received a diamante clip. Miss Patricia Griffiths  being presented with a silver pendent cross.”
