“The wedding took place at Welwyn Garden City Free Church on Tueasday, of Miss Marjorie M Burn, only daughter of Mr and Mrs F H Burn, of The Red House, Digswell, and Mr John Stableford Longstaff, son of Mr and Mrs H Longstaff, of Fairway, Ghyll Road, Crowborough, Sussex.

The ceremony was conducted by the Rev. R E Fenn, and Mr G O Peacock carried out the duties of the best man. J H Williams, at the organ, played the Bridal March and the Wedding March. The hymn, O Perfect Love, was sung.

The bride was given away by her father. She wore a dress of powder blue lace and carried a bouquet of white carnations and lilies-of-the-valley.

The bridsmaid in attendence was Miss Josephine Walkley, cousin of the bride, who wore a dress of pink organdie and carried a bouquet of sweet peas.

The reception was held at the residence of the brides parents at The Red House, Digswell. The Health of the bride and bridegroom was proposed by Mr H Williams (Mayor of Hornsey). Mr and Mrs J S Lonstaff later left for their honeymoon, which is being spent in Devonshire, the bride wearing a blue travelling costume. The ceremony was attended by a large number of friends and well wishers, and the couple were the recipients of many valuable and useful presents, including a freehold bungalow from the bride’s father, house linen from the bride’s mother, table silver and a cheque from the bridegroom’s parents.

The bride’s father, Mr F H Burn, is well-known in the Garden city, where he and his family formerly resided for a number of years before moving to The Red House, Digswell. Mr Burn is Chairman of Welwyn Piblications Ltd. and in addition to many other activities in the town he was recently appointed President of the Board of Governors of the proposed new hospital.”
