My Home Town - Part Two
Poetic Memories

My Home Town – further memories
Having been born and bred in Welwyn Garden City
In Springtime when the blossom is so pretty
Nick Faldo lived here, George Sweeney, actor and plumber
Who lives in this place which is lovely in summer.
With the Howard Centre and the Coronation Fountain in the town
It was such a shame the Swimming Pool was pulled down,
But now we have got the beautiful Stanborough Lakes
The booking hall of the Railway was a dark and dingy place.
We had a shop at Woodhall queuing for each separate thing
The Greengrocers, Bakers and the Butchers you heard the tills ring,
Where the launderette, Bakery and Brunts coaches once stood
We would book up for the seaside or get in where we could.
A man in the wallpaper shop took the edges off with a machine
Cresta Silks made ladies clothes, which were supreme,
The old Police Station was opposite Broadwater Press
The Cherry Tree ‘pub was where you took someone to impress,
an Orchard and and a Nursery School is now the Hollybush House building
there were shops and old Cottages on the site where I am now living.
