Rates for various purposes have been collected in this country since the reign of Elizabeth I. Of particular relevance to Welwyn Garden City is the series of volumes compiled by Welwyn Garden City Urban District Council between 1922 and 1967 held by HALS. These are a fantastic source in tracing exactly who lived in your house during that period. They are arranged alphabetically by the address so they are very easy to use.
